Granbery Studios recently had another opportunity to work with Chop Shop and their creative crew. This time we were on location during a three-day shoot in downtown Huntington Beach, Newport Beach and Rancho Cucamonga. We can’t reveal too many details about the shoot but it definitely had a comedic twist.

Shooting video with the Canon 7D camera

We used our GS3 tri-cam reality rig. A funny name for a camera set-up that we created to shoot three cameras all at the same time. The idea came from a client request to have good images while still keeping a realistic feel.

Setting up two GoPro 2 HD cameras

Why shoot with one camera when you can shoot with three? After a few tests, we came up with the idea of using a DSRL as the main camera, a GoPro 2 HD camera, and a Kodak Play Sport. At the end of the day, this would give the editor three different looks and feels. We shot many sequences throughout the day and our objective was to view the action as if we were an onlooker.

Our new handheld tri-cam rig was used to capture such deviant acts as smashing musical instruments, popping balloons and clipping toenails during corporate meetings. It is always said to have fun with your work and this project definitely allowed us to do just that.
